Jammu, Jan 26: A bomb threat that prompted a thorough search at the main Republic Day venue in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday turned out to be a hoax, officials confirmed. The threat, received via email late Saturday, led to the deployment of multiple bomb disposal teams and a night-long search at M.A. Stadium, the venue for the main Republic Day function.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is scheduled to unfurl the national flag and take salute at the march past, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attending as the chief guest. The email, sent from the username “Dise Lish,” was directed at several government departments, including the higher education secretary and director.
Authorities quickly mobilized teams to search the venue in the presence of senior police officers, but nothing suspicious was found. A special team has been formed to track down and arrest the culprits responsible for sending the hoax email.
