Beaten to death for delivering girl child!
Jammu Tawi: In a bizarre incident of cruelty and sick mindset a woman was mercilessly tortured, that proved fatal, for giving birth to a baby girl.
Pooja, 24 who was admitted at Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu here a month ago in serious condition, succumbed to her injuries in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Ward on Monday.
“A women namely Pooja, 24, wife of Ashwani Kumar, resident of Vijaypur, district Samba, was admitted to the ICU here on December 5 as serious case. She had suffered serious injuries on different parts of her body allegedly after being beaten up by her husband and other in-laws members,” police sources informed.
They said that the girl died this evening, adding, “the family of the deceased have alleged that she was tortured to death by her inlaws for delivering a girl child.”
‘We have recorded the statement of the parental family of the girl and started the investigations while the case is already registered at Police Station, Vijaypur,” they added.
Meanwhile Station House Officer, Vijaypur, Suraj Pathania said,” a case under section 498 of RPC (cruelty against woman) has been registered against the in-laws of the deceased.” “the couple had estranged relations after marriage while the girl was sent to her parent's house by the husband after delivering a girl child as she unwell and reportedly suffering from malnutrition and anemia,” said the SHO.
He said that for the more than two months, the girl living with her parents in Ramgarh village of the Vijaypur Tehsll, adding, “keeping unwell, she was admitted to the hospital but on the complaint lodged by the family that she was tortured and harassed, FIR has been lodged and investigations have been initiated.”
Maternal relative, Ghoru Ram alleged that Pooja was allegedly beaten up by her in-laws for giving birth to girl child and for not fulfilling the demand of dowry of Rs 5 lakh.
As per Ghoru Ram, in 2015 she got married to Ashwani Kumar Kumar who runs a slop. When Pooja shared the news of being expecting, her in-laws illegally conducted an ultra sound from their known contacts and came to know that she is going to give birth to a girl child. Following which her in laws pressurized Pooja to abort the female child which she
refused. Then her in-laws started torturing her. Later, Pooja visited her uncle's house through whom she consulted the doctor in Government SMGS Hospital where doctor advised her not to go for abortion due to some medical complications.
Finally, when the victim gave birth to a baby girl, few months ago, her husband allegedly did not allow her to enter his house forcing her to live with her parents, Ghoru Ram alleged.
Ghoru Ram said that when he contacted her husband Ashwani then he demanded Rs 5 lakh as dowry.
Manju, victim's sister alleged that Pooja used to share with her that her husband was unhappy as she gave birth to a girl.
She also claimed that Pooja used to share how her in-laws used to torture on one pretext or the other. They even used to beat her up after heating the iron rods.
