Area to expand upto 40,000 sq kms as against present 14,500; 13 airplanes will now be parked at Jammu airport

Jammu Tawi, Apr 13: The aviation sector in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is soon going to achieve new heights as the ongoing work of the second modern terminal at Jammu airport is most likely to be completed in November this year after which the area of Jammu airport will be 40,000 sq kms as against the present 14,500 sq kms.
After the completion of the work of this high-tech terminal at Jammu airport in November this year, the capacity of the airport will increase manifold and 13 airplanes will be parked at any given time.
“Apart from this, the passenger capacity will also go upto almost three times at Jammu airport,” reliable sources informed the Northlines.
The upcoming terminal at Jammu airport, after completion, will have all the modern facilities for the passengers and will give a major boost to tourism, business, religious tourism like Vaishno Devi, Amarnath and other revenue generating sectors of J&K.
“The new terminal will have 36 check in counters and the old terminal will be used for cargo and other services,” this was informed in the Airport Advisory Committee meeting headed by Member Parliament (MP), Jugal Kishore Sharma, sources further informed.
After the operation of new terminal at Jammu airport, the facilities for the passengers will be high tech and they will be able to get services fully online with minute to minute information regarding movement of planes and their capacity besides timing for take-off, sources said.
BJP MLA, Vikram Randhawa, officers of Airport authority, officers of Tourism Department and representatives of business community participated in the meeting.
