Authorities foil separatist march

Situation remained peaceful: IGP

Srinagar, Feb 15 (KNS): Security arrangements were put into place on Wednesday to thwart Kulgam Chalo call by separatists.

The separatists earlier called for protest march (Kulgam Chalo) against the causalities during an encounter in Frisal Kulgam district on Sunday. Four militants, two civilians and two soldiers were killed during the encounter.

Inspector General of Police zone S J M Geelani told that security forces were deployed to maintain law and order.

“Security forces were deployed to maintain law and order,” Geelani said.

He said the situation remained peaceful and under control, and no protest march or clashes were reported so far from anywhere.

According to KNS correspondent all entry routes towards Kulgam were sealed off and curfew like situation was imposed in Kulgam district. Security arrangements were also heightened in other parts of south Kashmir.

In Kulgam, complete shutdown was observed as the shops were shut and no transport movement was seen on the roads. The establishment, offices and Banks witnessed thin attendance.

In Srinagar city, there was a complete shutdown and most of shops and business establishments also remained closed. The volatile areas like Old City and Maisuma witnessed complete shutdown.

Meanwhile, and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik were held on Wednesday to prevent him from marching towards Kulgam, JKLF leader said. Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed house arrest to prevent him from taking part in protest march, a spokesman said. (KNS)
