National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Thursday opposed seat-sharing with any other party and declared his party would run for every seat in the next Lok Sabha elections at its own, thus dealing another blow to the INDI Alliance. According to a media report, he also made hints that he would even join the BJP-NDA if situation so warrants. NC is a member of the Congress and Mehbooba Mufti's PDP in the opposition's INDI coalition at National level while NC and PDP with other small groups are part of Gupkar Alliance in J&K.
Jairam Ramesh, the in-charge of Congress communications, however, stated that discussions over seat-sharing were underway and that the PDP and NC will remain members of the INDI Bloc. Discussions are ongoing. Each party is limited in their own way. He declared, “National Conference and PDP have been and will be members of the INDI Alliance.
In 2019, the NC won 3 of 6 Lok Sabha seats while three seats went to the BJP. The saffron party won from Ladakh, Udhampur, and Jammu. Baramulla, Srinagar, and Anantnag went to the NC.
