Jammu, Jul 10: At least six pilgrims undertaking the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra suffered injuries including one woman critically after a vehicle they were ferrying met with an accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
Police sources here said that a vehicle met with an accident on the Udhampur-Chenani stretch of Jammu-Srinagar national highway near Toldi Nallah when the driver lost the control.
They said six injured pilgrims belong to Madhya Pradesh and were travelling towards the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine suffered injuries.
However, one woman sustained critical injuries in the mishap.
Soon after the accident, police and traffic cops, CRPF men, army personnel and locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The injured were shifted to the Associated Hospital, Government Medical College Udhampur from where one critically injured woman was referred to Government Medical College Jammu for specialised treatment.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in a post on X said he had spoken to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, after receiving information about the accident.
“Every possible assistance is being extended to the injured pilgrims and that his office is in constant touch with the district administration to monitor the situation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also posted on X, “received the report of a road accident near Toldi Nallah in Udhampur involving six Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.”
The devotees were traveling to Pahalgam base camp for holy cave darshan when their vehicle skidded off the road, adding he posted that one pilgrim is seriously injured, while the other five are in stable condition and currently receiving care at GMC Udhampur.
The critically injured pilgrim has been shifted to GMC Jammu, he posted.
“I have directed the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, the Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur and medical officials at GMC Jammu and Udhampur to ensure they receive the best possible treatment. I pray to Lord Shiva for their swift recovery,” he posted. (Agencies)
