Srinagar, Oct 13: With the Congress deciding not to contest what it terms a “risky” Rajya Sabha seat, the National Conference (NC) is now likely to nominate its spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar as the candidate for the fourth seat from Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources told news agency that Dar is expected to be fielded for the crucial seat where the ruling alliance commands 24 votes, while the BJP holds 28, making the contest a challenging one.
A journalism graduate from Kashmir University (2005), Dar is the son of slain NC leader and former MLA Ghulam Nabi Dar, who was killed in a grenade attack during an NC procession in South Kashmir in 2006. The attack claimed five lives, while senior NC leader Sakina Ittoo narrowly escaped.
The 44-year-old Dar had contested his first Assembly election in 2014, but refrained from the 2024 polls, as the NC had extended support to the CPI(M) in the Kulgam constituency. (KNO)
