    Addicts Know, Cops Don’t!

One question which is quite intriguing is that how come drug addicts without having any backing or network seem to know exactly where to obtain their next packet of dose while the government agencies meant for curbing drug menace are often steps behind in this whole gamut. This paradoxical situation somehow unravels a deeper rot in the society marred with corruption, apathy and lack of accountability which is allowing this crisis to continue unabated.
Although the cops and other agencies have achieved many targets in curbing drug trafficking but still the menace is thriving in the shadowed corners of Jammu’s vibrant streets with police and other agencies struggling to take some decisive steps. Isn’t it raises brows that if those in the grip of addiction can so easily access narcotics, why do the very institutions tasked with curbing this menace continue to falter?
It is sad but true that there are systemic lapses in intelligence and enforcement, which are required to be fixed to tackle with the situation effectively or else the problem of substance abuse will continue to ruin the society especially the young lot and those responsible for containing this will continue to give excuses.
The issue of curbing drug peddling is not so intricate because the enforcement agencies can get leads from the drug addicts because the consignments which they receive don’t  come from the skies rather there are entities which are providing the same, and therefore thorough interrogation of the drug addicts can do the job but what is difficult to understand is the hitch stopping the cops and other agencies to tread this path as giving a long rope to drug peddlers is the main reason behind the growing menace of substance abuse in the region.
It is for sure that half-hearted measures and hollow assurances will not make the desired change because it is quite simple that if the drug addicts can reach out to the right person to get their next dose of narcotics no alibi by the enforcement agencies to be caught off-guard remains justified. What comes in the mind after gauging this situation is that there is no lack of information rather it is lack of intent to contain the menace, which is unacceptable.
The need of the time is that all the agencies and entities meant to curb this menace should shed complacency and act with resolve.
