    Action intensified against youth radicalization, drug trafficking: DGP Swain

    Srinagar: The Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, R.R Swain, has reiterated the commitment of the J&K Police to combat the twin threats of youth radicalization and drug trafficking.

    While chairing a meeting of senior police and civil administration officers of North Kashmir Range at District Police Lines Baramulla, the DGP Swain emphasized the importance of cracking down on narcotic activities, stating that such actions are not only anti-terror but also benefit society, youth, and counter organized crime.

    During his visit to Baramulla, Swain chaired a public interaction and grievance redressal program, addressing concerns directly from around 400 attendees. He assured timely redressal of genuine grievances while directing officers to develop a strategic roadmap to eradicate the narco-terror trade. He stressed the need for meticulous investigation into Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases to dismantle the drug trade network.

    Furthermore, Swain underscored the significance of optimizing human resources at police stations, focusing on core policing practices and emerging threats like cybercrime. He also highlighted initiatives for the welfare of police personnel and their families, including housing provisions and strengthening police schools and hostels.

    In attendance were senior officers from various districts, including IGP Kashmir V.K Birdi and DIG NKR, Vivek Gupta. Swain’s commitment to addressing public grievances, especially in rural areas, was emphasized, with plans to increase the frequency of such programs for effective complaint resolution.

    The DGP emphasized the challenging nature of policing, emphasizing the importance of providing justice and differentiating between right and wrong. He pledged strict action against those involved in radicalizing youth and drug trafficking, acknowledging the difficult sacrifices made by officers like Mudasir Ahmad, a Shaurya Chakra awardee.

    Talking about the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir Police Parivar which is extended to the families of martyrs, deceased and retired personnel, the DGP said that issues of housing are being looked into at the highest level. He emphasised upon district officers to streamline and strengthen the functioning of Police schools and hostels in each district for which every possible support will be provided by the Police Headquarters.

    The jurisdictional officers attending the meeting briefed the DGP regarding the different measures which are in place to maintain the prevailing peaceful atmosphere.

    Earlier, the DGP on his arrival paid tributes to the J&K Police fallen heroes by laying wreaths at the martyrs memorial.

    In an emotionally charged moment in the evening, DGP honored the father of Jammu Kashmir Police’s fallen hero, Mudasir Ahmad. Mudasir Ahmad, who was a Shaurya Chakra awardee (Posthumous), paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation and protecting its citizens.

    The DGP, along with other high-ranking officers, extended their heartfelt gratitude and respect to the family of the fallen hero. This heartwarming ceremony served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave men in uniform who risk their lives for the safety and security of the public.
