Railway Police seizes Cigarettes worth Rs 13 Lakhs

Tawi, June 19: Continuing with its drive against illegal activities and tax evaders, GRP Jammu's Police post Vijaypur today seized unclaimed cigarettes worth rupees 13 Lakhs.

It is worthwhile to mention that Gold Flake Super Cigarette cost around Rs 32/- per packet in J&K whereas in rest of the Country.

The cost of theCigarettes is Rs 40/-per packet due to this differential. These Cigarettes are being smuggled outside the state bypassing the Tax system. The seizure has been made by IC Railway Police post Vijaypur.

As per Commercial Tax Officers, total penalty would be around ten lakhs as and when the claimants turn up.
