Srinagar, July 25: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of duping a Kashmiri youth with a fake overseas job offer in Cambodia, where the victim was allegedly forced into online scam operations instead of the promised employment.
The chargesheet in FIR No. 19/2026 has been filed under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mohd Yaseen Rather, son of Nisar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan, before the Court of the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class after completion of the investigation, an official statement said.
The case was registered after the complainant alleged that the accused promised him a Computer Operator job in Cambodia with a monthly salary of ₹90,000. Believing the offer to be genuine, the victim reportedly transferred lakhs of rupees to the accused’s bank account and spent additional money on visa processing, travel and other formalities.
Investigators found that after reaching Cambodia, the complainant was neither given the promised job nor paid the assured salary. Instead, he was allegedly compelled to participate in illegal online scamming activities, leading to exploitation and financial losses.
The EOW said the investigation substantiated the allegations and gathered sufficient evidence, following which the chargesheet was presented before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
The Crime Branch has urged people to exercise caution while pursuing overseas employment opportunities. It advised job seekers to verify the authenticity of employment offers before making any payments and report suspected frauds to the SSP, Economic Offences Wing, Kashmir. Victims of economic offences have also been encouraged to approach the EOW for prompt legal action against those responsible. (Agencies)
