New Delhi, Jul 5: The Centre has issued a stern notice to Meta over the presence of Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM) in paid advertisements on Instagram, directing the company to immediately remove such content, sources said on Sunday.
According to sources, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) served the notice on Saturday evening after taking serious note of advertisements allegedly promoting or facilitating access to child sexual abuse material on the platform.
The ministry has ordered Instagram to disable all advertisements and content linked to CSEAM without delay.
MeitY has also sought a detailed explanation from Meta within seven days regarding the appearance of such content on Instagram and the measures taken to prevent its circulation.
The government has treated the issue with utmost seriousness, with the notice underscoring its zero-tolerance approach towards online child sexual exploitation and abuse. (Agencies)
