Following a detailed reporting by The Northlines, concerned authorities have reportedly declared the proposed site for construction of community hall unfit in Panchayat Nala.

According to sources, the issue pertains to the construction of a community hall in Village Bernada, Ward Nos. 5 and 6, under Panchayat Nala.

“Certain former Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members attempted to occupy land allegedly belonging to a widowed woman, identified as Simro Devi, for the project,” said sources, adding that following the matter highlighted by The Northlines, officials from the Revenue Department and a team of engineers visited the site on the directions of senior authorities.

They said during the inspection, engineers reportedly observed that the proposed structure was being developed beneath a hill slope, making it vulnerable during the rainy season.

“Officials have noted that the area carries a high risk of landslides and falling trees, making it unsuitable for public infrastructure development,” said sources, adding that the proposed structure consisted of only a few small rooms and lacked scope for parking or future expansion.

The engineering team has reportedly submitted its findings, clearly recommending that the community hall should not be constructed at the present location due to safety hazards.

Meanwhile, sources alleged that some former PRI representatives were attempting to use the project for political influence and vote-bank considerations.

Locals have demanded a thorough investigation into alleged attempts to occupy land and install infrastructure such as poles and wires on disputed property.

They have emphasized that government land is available in the area and urged authorities to select a safer and more suitable location for the community hall.

Residents have appealed to the Block Development Officer (BDO) to convene a Gram Sabha involving villagers from Makol, Nahoti, Bernada, and Nala so that a consensus can be reached regarding a new site for the proposed facility.

Sources further stated that Rs 10 lakh had been sanctioned for the project through local MLA Randhir Singh, and villagers have requested that the funds be utilized for constructing a properly planned community facility at a location suitable for development and public access.
