DM Jammu Imposes 60-Day Ban on Provocative Social Media Content

JAMMU, Apr 17: To maintain communal harmony and public order, District Magistrate Jammu Dr. Rakesh Minhas has imposed a 60-day ban on the circulation of provocative and misleading content on social media under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The order, effective immediately, prohibits posting, sharing, or forwarding any material—including text, videos, and memes—that could incite hatred between communities or spread unverified information.

Social media group administrators, including those on WhatsApp, have been made jointly responsible for preventing the spread of such content. The administration has warned that violations may attract strict legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and the IT Act, including possible imprisonment.

The Cyber Crime Unit has been directed to maintain round-the-clock monitoring, while citizens have been advised to verify information through official government sources before sharing.
