Nitish sends his resignation to the Bihar legislative council chairman

Patna:  Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday sent his resignation letter to the chairman of Bihar Legislative Council.

Senior JDU leaders Sanjay Gandhi and Sanjay Shroff visited Bihar Legislative Council along with the resignation letter of Kumar relinquishing the membership of the Upper House in the state.

Meanwhile, state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Chaudhary said Kumar’s resignation from the state legislature becomes a “constitutional necessity” after being elected to the Rajya Sabha, and indicated that due procedure was being followed in the current case.

Talking to media, Chaudhary explained that once a leader is elected to the Rajya Sabha, there is a fixed timeframe within which one must resign from their existing membership of either the Assembly or the Council. “This is a constitutional requirement, and we are here to fulfil that obligation,” he said.

He said the resignation letter is being submitted for further processing.

Referring to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Chaudhary said that any step regarding resignation from the chief minister’s post would be taken strictly in accordance with constitutional provisions.

“The Chief Minister has always acted in line with constitutional norms, and whatever is required under the Constitution will be done this time as well,” he said.

He reiterated that such resignations are part of routine constitutional compliance following election to the Rajya Sabha and should not be viewed as an unusual political development.
