Opposition MPs Protest in Parliament Complex Over LPG Supply Crunch

NEW DELHI, Mar 25: Several Opposition MPs on Wednesday staged a protest in the Parliament House complex over the reported LPG supply crunch, raising slogans against the government and accusing it of failing to ensure adequate supply.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP(SP)’s Supriya Sule, SP’s Dharmendra Yadav, CPI-ML’s Sudama Prasad, DMK’s T Sumathy and JMM’s Mahua Maji were among those who participated in the protest near the Makar Dwar of Parliament.

Holding a large banner reading “Empty Cylinders, Empty Promises”, the MPs criticised the government over the situation and demanded immediate corrective measures.

The reported LPG shortage comes amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has impacted energy supplies. In response, the government has prioritised the allocation of domestically produced natural gas for LPG production, as well as for compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped cooking gas sectors.

To address the issue, the government has stepped up efforts to streamline gas distribution and ease supply pressures. Measures include expediting the processing of city gas projects and increasing allocations of commercial LPG to key sectors in view of the challenging geopolitical environment. (Agencies)
