New Delhi, Jan 5: The Supreme Court of India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the apex court of Bhutan to facilitate the exchange of young legal professionals, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said on Monday.
Announcing the development at the start of court proceedings, the CJI said that under the MoU, two law clerks from Bhutan will work with the Supreme Court of India for a period of three months. The clerks will receive the same honorarium as Indian law clerks, while their travel expenses will be borne by the Supreme Court.
Introducing the Bhutanese law clerks to a packed courtroom, Justice Kant described them as “young and bright” and said they would be assigned to work in different courts during their tenure.
“We have entered into an MoU with the Supreme Court of Bhutan, under which two law clerks will be engaged for three months. They will be paid as per our honorarium norms, their travel will be taken care of, and they will work in different courts,” the CJI said.
He said the initiative is aimed at strengthening judicial cooperation and enhancing institutional ties between India and Bhutan through professional exchange and exposure. (Agencies)
