JAMMU, Dec 18: In a move aimed at strengthening administrative enforcement, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has authorised all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) and Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) across the Union Territory to exercise the powers of Executive Magistrates within their respective jurisdictions.
The decision has been taken under sub-section (1) of Section 14 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, according to an official notification issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
As per the notification, RTOs and ARTOs will function as Executive Magistrates in their territorial areas until further orders, with the objective of ensuring effective implementation of the new legal framework and enhancing administrative control across Jammu and Kashmir. (KNC)
