Goa Nightclub Fire: Owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra Detained in Thailand

PANAJI, Dec 11: Thailand Police have detained Saurabh Luthra and his brother Gaurav Luthra, who fled India after a fire at their Goa nightclub killed 25 people, officials said on Thursday. The nightclub co-owners, against whom an Interpol Blue Corner Notice had been issued, were held at the request of the Indian government, they said.

Both accused are currently detained in Phuket, and the process to bring them back to India is underway, senior officials confirmed. According to officials, the duo booked tickets to Phuket at 1.17 am on December 7—within an hour of learning about the massive blaze at ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’, their nightclub in Arpora, North Goa.

While police and administration were still battling the fire and rescuing staff, the brothers left India early Sunday on an IndiGo flight. Following their escape, Goa Police approached the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the issuance of the Blue Corner Notice against them. (Agencies)
