Jaipur: Rajasthan Police’s CID Intelligence Wing has arrested a Punjab resident, Prakash Singh alias Badal (34), for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s ISI after he was detained near a military area in Sri Ganganagar while gathering sensitive information.
Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) Prafulla Kumar said Singh, a native of Ferozepur, had been in continuous contact with ISI handlers through social media, mainly WhatsApp, since “Operation Sindoor,” and was monitoring Army movements and sharing photos and videos of military activities across Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat.
Investigators found he used OTPs from other people’s mobile numbers to create WhatsApp accounts under false identities, which he allegedly used to transmit intelligence for substantial financial rewards.
He was detained on November 27 by the Border Intelligence team near the Sadhuwali military zone after reports of suspicious activity, and his phone reportedly contained chats with multiple Pakistan-based numbers.
Following interrogation in Sriganganagar and Jaipur, digital evidence confirmed espionage, leading to a case registered on December 1 under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, at the Special Police Station in Jaipur. Further investigations are underway to trace others linked to his network in Rajasthan and Punjab. (Agencies)
