New Delhi: The Winter Session of Parliament commenced in the Lok Sabha on Monday, with the government listing 13 Bills for consideration, including several that have not undergone scrutiny by any Standing Committee. Officials said the Business Advisory Committee has already earmarked time for major legislative proposals and scheduled debates.
Among the prominent Bills slated for introduction or passage are the Atomic Energy Bill, 2025, the Higher Education Commission of India Bill, amendments related to National Highways and Corporate Laws, and the Securities Markets Code Bill, 2025. Two Bills carried over from the previous session are also likely to be taken up.
However, the Opposition has pressed for an extensive discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls underway in 12 states and Union Territories. They have additionally sought debates on national security after the Delhi terror attack, rising air pollution in the capital, and the rollout of new labour codes.
Opposition leaders cautioned that excluding these issues from the Winter Session agenda could impact the smooth functioning of the House. (Agencies)
