Shopian, Nov 27: In a major crackdown, police in Shopian launched extensive, coordinated raids across the district on Thursday morning, targeting individuals and locations believed to be linked to the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), officials said.
The searches, conducted at multiple sites simultaneously, are based on actionable intelligence pointing to suspected activities, networks, and possible financial or logistical support connected to the banned organisation, which remains outlawed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Senior officers are monitoring the operations, which aim to strengthen surveillance and enforce the UAPA ban more rigorously across the region.
Further details are awaited.
