Shopian, Nov 21: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zainapora has ordered a ban on the use of mikes, megaphones and loudspeakers by mobile vendors selling fruits and other consumables across the subdivision, following numerous public complaints about rising noise pollution.
According to the notice, the administration received several representations from residents, along with observations made during Block Devas on November 19, 2025, highlighting disturbances caused by vendors using loud sound equipment while moving through streets, lanes and roads. The SDM noted that such practices create noise and environmental pollution, cause traffic congestion, increase accident risks and inconvenience the public.
The order states that the use of sound-amplifying devices during vending activities is injurious to public health and comfort and violates approved norms. It further adds that such practices must be prohibited and the goods removed as per legal provisions.
Invoking powers under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the SDM directed that no vendor shall use mikes or megaphones while vending in any part of Sub-Division Zainapora henceforth. The step aims to curb pollution, prevent congestion and avoid accidents on local roads and thoroughfares.
The order warns that any violation or non-compliance, explicit or implicit, will invite strict legal action against offenders. (KNC)
