Sacrifices of our protectors laid foundation of ‘Atamnirbhar’ J&K: Sinha

Urges people to safeguard contributions of fallen heroes

Jammu Tawi, Nov 19: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that the dream of building an “Atmanirbhar and Adhunik” (self-reliant and modern) Jammu & Kashmir stands on the sacrifices made by security forces, J&K Police, farmers, youth and women. The LG paid obeisance at the ancient Shiv Temple in Purmandal and participated in the Devika Maha Aarti.

Addressing devotees, LG Sinha urged the people to collectively honour and safeguard the peace secured by the martyrs. He said the past five to six years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have brought a new era of peace and development to J&K, adding that the administration continues to work relentlessly for sustained progress despite challenges.

Highlighting landmark reforms, he said various new laws have strengthened public rights and empowered citizens. The country today recognizes the emerging strength of Jammu and Kashmir and its crucial role in building a Viksit Bharat, he added. He said restoration of hundreds of religious places mirrors a cultural renaissance and reinforces India’s unity in diversity.

Emphasizing environmental responsibility, the LG said every citizen must protect natural resources for future generations. He called upon youth to work with commitment and resilience to make Jammu and Kashmir a shining example before the world.

LG Sinha announced that Purmandal Degree College will be handed over to the Higher Education Department next month. He said significant development has taken place since 2021, with initiatives to transform Purmandal into a major religious tourism destination. Describing the Purmandal-Utterbehni Teerth Kshetra as a symbol of faith and cultural unity, he said the revered Umapati Mahadev Temple on the banks of the Gupt Ganga Devika embodies the region’s spiritual identity.

Responding to demands raised by the Purmandal-Utterbehni Teerth Seva Trust, he assured coordinated efforts to preserve local heritage. The LG informed that the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has constructed five temples over the past year and helicopter services between the shrine and Shiv Khori will soon be launched. He directed the Samba administration to identify land for a new Ved Vidyalaya funded by the Shrine Board, and assured financial support for Gurukuls and Sanskrit institutions.

LG Sinha also said that the proposal for a four-lane road to Purmandal will be taken up with the Centre. Praising organisations working to preserve cultural heritage, he urged society to collectively protect natural wealth and traditions.
