Jammu Tawi, Nov 18: In a major breakthrough under Operation AVTAR, Police Station Gandhi Nagar has busted a well-organised two-wheeler theft racket operating across several areas of Jammu City, recovering 40 stolen motorcycles and scooties worth nearly ₹35 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.
Multiple FIRs—No. 22/2025, 242/2025, 215/2025, and 220/2025 under Section 303(2) BNS—had been registered following a surge in vehicle thefts in Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and adjoining areas. A special team led by PSI Mohd Ilyas, PSI Nadeem Akram, and ASI Pintoo Kumar, under the supervision of the SHO Gandhi Nagar and SDPO City South, launched an intensive investigation.
Technical surveillance, sustained tracking and CCTV analysis led to the arrest of three accused:
Harpreet Singh of Ramgarh (Samba),
Gurdarshan Singh of Ramgarh (Samba), and
Himanshu Nanda of Bishnah (Jammu).
During interrogation, the trio confessed to multiple thefts, leading police to recover 40 stolen two-wheelers from various hideouts. The recovered vehicles include Splendors, Pulsars, Activas, R15, Royal Enfield, TVS models and several scooties.
The crackdown has brought major relief to residents of affected neighbourhoods, who praised the prompt action and professionalism of the Gandhi Nagar police.
Jammu Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety.
