    Keep pace with Cyber Crime!

The various wings of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been working hard to crack the cybercrime cases coming to fore on real time basis but what is required is to stop such crimes by remaining steps ahead of the cyber criminals, which off and on ditch the stakeholders by changing their modus operandi and even dodging the agencies created to curb their illegal activities especially financial crimes.

It is praiseworthy that reportedly the Cyber Police Station Jammu has successfully facilitated the recovery and refund of Rs 39,37,537 to multiple victims of cyber fraud. A total of 12 complaints involving cumulative cyber frauds amounting to Rs 59,72,000 were registered on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and entrusted to Cyber Police Station Jammu for investigation. Through diligent follow-ups, timely coordination with financial institutions, and systematic technical verification, the investigating teams ensured the successful restitution of the defrauded amounts to the respective victims.

This action is though laudable but what is the need of the hour is to take steps in the direction to ensure that no unscrupulous element can defraud the novice population across the region as people using internet and social media besides banking applications independently are vulnerable to the actions of cyber fraudsters because they have the knack to befool by using ever changing tactics and creating conditions to entrap the gullible lot.

There is dire need that the government should come up with comprehensive initiatives to educate masses including the not-so-technically-savvy-people to ensure that communities usually using the internet adopt safe digital practices.

It is advisable that the government should create a special cell or a unit to impart awareness among the stakeholders to keep them abreast with every new modus operandi of the cyber criminals for safe use of online applications as these are more susceptible to such crimes especially involving the financial transactions.

It is good that cyber cells of JKP have attained proficiency in dealing with such cases as the results speak of the same but what is more important is to create a society which knows how to get insulated from such threats looming during the online activities as this will be the ultimate befitting response to the cyber criminals who are always on prowl to find their new prey on internet and social media.
