Over 800 locations searched, 500 questioned to dismantle terror-separatist network
Srinagar, Nov 12: In the wake of the Delhi car blast, Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified security across the Union Territory, placing all districts on high alert and increasing patrolling, checking, and surveillance in sensitive areas. Authorities have also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity.
In Jammu, police held meetings with traders, transporters, and residents to strengthen community surveillance. Shopkeepers and business owners were urged to install CCTV cameras and report unattended objects or unusual movements. “People can act as our extended eyes and ears to prevent any incident,” a senior officer said. Quick reaction teams and additional personnel have been deployed at key locations, including the Jammu bus stand, railway station, and crowded markets.
Security has also been beefed up in Samba, Kathua, and at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi along with its base camp at Katra. Enhanced patrolling continues along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and railway routes. Officials reiterated that while there is no need for panic, public alertness is crucial.
Meanwhile, in a coordinated crackdown on the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), police have launched extensive raids across Kashmir to dismantle the terror-separatist network and prevent any revival of the banned group’s activities. A senior official said searches were conducted at the residences and premises of JeI members and their associates, leading to the recovery of incriminating documents, digital devices, and printed material. Several suspects were questioned and bound under preventive laws.
In Sopore, police carried out simultaneous raids at over 25 locations across Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad following credible inputs that JeI-linked individuals were attempting to revive organisational activities under new fronts. Similar large-scale operations were conducted in Kulgam, where police raided more than 200 premises linked to JeI members and overground workers. In the last four days alone, officials said more than 400 search operations have been carried out, leading to the interrogation of about 500 people, several of whom have been detained.
In Pulwama and Awantipora, coordinated operations were launched with the support of other security agencies. Electronic gadgets, documents, and propaganda material linked to JeI were seized during the raids. Police said the searches were part of sustained efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem and prevent the group’s attempts to regroup.
Srinagar Police also conducted extensive raids at 150 locations across the city targeting associates and overground workers of proscribed organisations under investigations related to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Similar operations were carried out in Ganderbal with the help of other agencies. The raids followed credible intelligence about JeI-linked elements attempting to revive their network through covert means and front organisations.
A police spokesperson said the ongoing, intelligence-driven crackdown aims to destroy the ideological, financial, and logistical structures supporting terror in the region. “These operations are preventive and focused on ensuring peace and stability by dismantling all elements aiding terrorism and separatism,” the spokesperson added.
