J&K Police Detain Mewat Preacher in ‘White-Collar’ Terror Module Case

Srinagar, Nov 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained a religious preacher from Mewat, Haryana, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the ‘white-collar’ terror module allegedly linked to banned outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, officials said on Wednesday.

The preacher, identified as Maulvi Ishtiyaq, was living in a rented house inside the Al Falah University complex in Faridabad, where police earlier recovered over 2,500 kg of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulphur. He has been brought to Srinagar and is likely to be formally arrested soon, officials added.

Ishtiyaq’s detention marks the ninth arrest in the case, which has exposed a sophisticated interstate terror network involving individuals from Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Police sources said the explosives found at his residence were stored by Dr. Muzammil Ganaie alias Musaib and Dr. Umar Nabi, who allegedly drove the explosives-laden car that detonated near Red Fort on Monday evening, killing 12 people.

The massive cache and subsequent arrests have revealed how educated operatives, including doctors and university staff, were allegedly running a covert radicalization and logistics chain under the guise of academia and religious activity.

Police, assisted by central agencies, continue to investigate the module’s financing, supply chain, and wider network across northern India. (Agencies)
