Kashmiri Doctor Arrested From UP for Allegedly Putting Up JeM Posters in Srinagar

Srinagar: A Kashmiri doctor working at a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur has been arrested and handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for his alleged involvement in putting up posters in support of the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar, officials said on Friday.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Vyom Bindal, the accused, identified as Adil Ahmed, hails from Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir and was employed at a private hospital in Saharanpur. “He was taken into custody by the Srinagar Police on Thursday in connection with a case registered there,” Bindal said.

The officer added that several individuals from Jammu and Kashmir are currently working in private nursing homes and hospitals in Saharanpur, and the local intelligence unit has been alerted to verify their antecedents.

Police sources said a case was recently registered in Srinagar after posters promoting Jaish-e-Mohammed surfaced in multiple areas of the city. During investigation, CCTV footage captured a man pasting the posters, later identified as Adil Ahmed.

Acting on technical surveillance, the Jammu and Kashmir Police traced Ahmed’s location to Saharanpur. A team from Srinagar, assisted by the local police and Special Operations Group (SOG), conducted a raid at the private hospital on Ambala Road and arrested him.

He was subsequently produced before a local court, which granted his transit remand to the Srinagar Police for further investigation, officials confirmed. (Agencies)
