J&K: 10 charge-sheeted in fraudulent land compensation case in Anantnag

Srinagar, Nov 7: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has filed a charge-sheet against ten accused individuals in connection with a fraudulent land compensation case involving fictitious beneficiaries in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A CBK spokesperson said the charge-sheet in FIR No. 12/2015, registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B RPC read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, was submitted before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Anantnag.

The case pertains to the fraudulent release of compensation for land falsely shown as acquired by the government for constructing the Verinag–Kokernag road via Batagund. Investigation revealed that several Revenue Department officials—including the then Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, Girdawar, and Patwari of Dooru—conspired with private individuals to manipulate and forge official records, enabling the disbursement of compensation to non-existent landowners.

The forged entries led to wrongful monetary gains for the accused and caused significant losses to the State exchequer, the CBK said.

Following a thorough probe and evidence collection, the Economic Offences Wing submitted the charge-sheet for judicial determination, reiterating its commitment to transparency and accountability in public administration and to bringing offenders in economic crimes to justice. (Agencies)
