Srinagar, Oct 25: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that while the National Conference (NC) made every effort to secure all four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, the final 3-1 outcome reflected both achievement and disappointment after some supporters backed out at the last stage.
Speaking to reporters, Omar said, “There should be no doubt about the 3-1 result. We tried our best for a 4-0 victory, but as I mentioned yesterday, in the final stage we were let down from certain quarters.”
Without naming anyone, the Chief Minister hinted that some allies withdrew support during the crucial phase of polling. “It has now become fairly clear who supported us and who didn’t. I’m grateful to all who stood with us till the end, though it’s disappointing that some chose otherwise,” he added.
Omar, however, expressed satisfaction over the party’s internal discipline, noting that no National Conference votes were cross-voted or wasted. “I take comfort in the fact that not a single NC vote went astray,” he said.
His remarks came a day after the Rajya Sabha election results, in which the National Conference secured three seats, while the BJP managed to win one after a closely contested race.
