Albeit it is good that alert soldiers have foiled another infiltration bid by terrorists on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector but looking at the reluctance of rogue neighbour Pakistan, it has become necessary to take further steps to fortify country’s territory against such misdemeanors in future. It is intriguing that despite India teaching a befitting lesson to Pakistan during the recent military conflict viz. Operation Sindoor, the unprincipled country has not changed its course and is spreading unrest in Jammu and Kashmir by relying on its archaic methods especially by facilitating infiltration of terror mongers to this side of the border.
In this regard, the move proposed by the Central Government to shift the Rashtriya Rifles from hinterland of Jammu and Kashmir and deploy its troops along the Line of Control (LoC) to strengthen Anti-Infiltration Grid in Rajouri and Poonch districts of the Jammu region, and Baramulla and Kupwara in the Kashmir valley seems to be a necessary step as the threat perception at these sectors is quite high. According to reports, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), whose additional battalions are being deployed in Jammu and Kashmir, will replace the Rashtriya Rifles in villages and hinterland of the Union Territory, once the aforesaid proposal is matured.
Considering Pakistan’s nefarious designs to abet terrorism across J&K by pushing terrorists inside Indian territory, there is dire need to further strengthen anti-infiltration measures on the LoC to ensure that the terrorists don’t manage to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir to carry out subversive activities and the deployment of additional troops of Rashtriya Rifles along the LoC can prove useful to further strengthen anti-infiltration measures.
The Rashtriya Rifles, a special counter-insurgency force comprising personnel from the Indian Army, was established in the nineties and deployed in Jammu and Kashmir when the terrorism was at its peak. All said and done, the decision to replace RR with para military in the hinterland and deploy RR along the LoC is imperative in many ways and therefore the same should be implemented sooner than later to bolster the security grid in an appropriate manner to completely stop infiltration.
