New Delhi, Aug 28: The government has extended the tenure of Railway Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Satish Kumar by one year, officials said on Wednesday. His current term was set to end on August 31, 2025.
According to an order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Kumar will continue as Chairman and CEO on re-employment contract from September 1, 2025, for one year or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Kumar, a 1986-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), was appointed on September 1, 2024, becoming the first Scheduled Caste officer to hold the top post in the Railway Board’s history.
In his career spanning over 34 years, Kumar has served across multiple zones and divisions, including Jhansi, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Varanasi, as well as production units like Diesel Locomotive Works and Patiala Locomotive Works. Known for his innovations, he played a key role in developing the Fog Safe Device, enhancing safety of train operations in adverse weather.
Before taking charge as Chairman and CEO, Kumar held the position of Member (Traction and Rolling Stock), overseeing crucial areas of traction and rolling stock in Indian Railways.
