Pulled 25 Cr out of poverty in 10 yrs, biggest achievement: LG Sinha

Bharat emerged stronger in last decade with innovative initiatives

Srinagar, Aug 22: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday described the upliftment of over 25 crore people from poverty in the past decade as one of Bharat’s greatest achievements, crediting reforms and innovation for the nation’s transformation.

Speaking at the felicitation ceremony of the Centre for Innovations in Public Systems (CIPS) Awards, LG Sinha said Bharat’s future is bright as it ranks among the world’s fastest-growing economies. “After 2014, the country has witnessed unprecedented development. Every Indian feels proud of the transformation. In the past 10-11 years, Bharat has become stronger and is leading through innovative initiatives,” he said.

He underlined that governance is no longer routine paperwork. “No file is just a piece of paper. Any decision on it affects thousands of lives. Policies must be citizen-centric and shaped through people’s feedback,” he noted.

Highlighting technological advances, he cited the Akshaya Patra Foundation’s use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to cut food wastage by 50% while feeding 25 lakh children daily. He urged adoption of similar models in governance and the mid-day meal scheme. Stressing agriculture’s role as the backbone of the economy, he called for policies that strengthen farmers and ensure food security.

“Bharat’s progress lies in inclusive growth and continuous innovation. Our responsibility is to build governance systems that respond to challenges and prepare the nation for the future,” the LG said. Congratulating CIPS awardees, he praised their efforts in health, education, IT and rural development, adding, “Civil servants, engineers, doctors, scientists and technocrats are the backbone of administration. Their honesty and efficiency are our greatest assets.”

He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying the mantra of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’ has enhanced ease of living and seamless service delivery. “India is now the fastest-growing economy with a favourable environment for sustained development,” he said.

LG Sinha emphasized the need to focus on policy performance, managing complex challenges and preparing for disruptive changes. “People’s voice must be the soul of governance. Policy-making cannot remain confined to offices but must reflect citizens’ needs,” he remarked, adding that in the age of AI, change is the only constant.

Highlighting progress in Jammu and Kashmir, he said emerging technologies would further improve decision-making, citizen engagement and service delivery. He also congratulated District Administration Ganderbal for innovative environmental initiatives and praised changemakers like EdTech innovator Jairaj Bhattacharya and Tinsukia DC Swapneel Paul for their impactful contributions.

Calling upon bureaucrats and technocrats to devise new tools, he urged special focus on technology-driven solutions in agriculture to address challenges, including those posed by climate change.
