J&K: Cloudburst Cuts Off Kathua Village, Ujh River Near Danger Mark

Jammu, August 17: A cloudburst struck Jod Ghati village in Rajbagh area of Kathua district during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, snapping access to the remote settlement and causing damage to land and property, officials said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, but authorities confirmed that connectivity to the village has been disrupted. A joint team of police and SDRF has been dispatched to carry out rescue and assessment operations.

Heavy overnight rains also triggered landslides in Bagard and Changda villages under Kathua police station, and in Dilwan-Hutli area of Lakhanpur, though no major damage was reported.

The downpour has led to a sharp rise in water levels, with the Ujh river flowing close to the danger mark, officials said.

The district administration is keeping a close watch on the situation and has advised residents to stay away from water bodies to ensure safety.
