THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The country’s first comprehensive land records digital system, launched in October last year, has attracted attention from many States and Union Territories.
Among the States which have consulted Kerala to learn from the system, named “Ente Bhoomi”, was Assam. Kerala has agreed to provide software support and technical assistance to that State. Besides, a team from the Union Territory of Pondicherry was in Kerala recently to study its implementation. Likewise, a virtual session was held for officials from Rajasthan which is considering adopting a similar framework for management of information on land.
A conclave, held recently in the Kerala capital of Thiruvananthapuram jointly by the Survey and Revenue departments, was attended by 123 representatives, including Ministers and bureaucrats from as many as 22 States and Union Territories.
The portal of “Ente Bhoomi”, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, combines the land related services of the Survey, Revenue and Registration Departments, and offers a plethora of services. The services include land transfer, template system for land registration, pre-mutation sketch, liability certificate, land tax payment, fair value determination, auto mutation and location sketch.
The Chief Minister has said that Kerala has made remarkable progress in digital land survey and in offering land-related services, an achievement no other State can claim. The Ente Bhoomi land survey has become a resounding reality with the Statewide digital land survey entering its third phase.
A big advantage and relief for the common people is that land services will now be available to the public efficiently and transparently without having to go through various offices. So far, the survey of 4.8 lakh hectares of land across 35.2 lakh parcels in 212 villages has been completed.
The initiation of the digital survey, setting up of smart village offices and introduction of a Unique Thandaper Number system ensures that the services of the Revenue Department will benefit not only those residing in Kerala but also the State’s diaspora spread across the world.
The services provided through the Revenue Department’s web-portal are currently available in 10 foreign countries, VIZ., the UK, the US, Canada, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. The facility is set to be extended to more countries in a phased manner.
In another trail-blazing development, the country’s first supercapacitor manufacturing facility at the Keltron Component Complex Limited(KCCL) in Kalliassery, Kannur, has completed its initial phase with an investment of Rs 18 crore.
Supercapacitors are special devices that can store and release energy faster than traditional batteries. They are also important for defence, automative and aerospace industries, which need fast and reliable energy solutions.
The facility at Kalliassery will manufacture high-quality, indigenously made supercapacitors that have applications ranging from electric vehicles to space missions. The KCCL will produce up to 2000 supercapacitors daily, meeting global standards and helping in India’s growing demand for advanced electronic components. The first phase of construction, including the installation of imported machinery, has been completed, signalling the plant’s readiness for full-scale production. Within four years, the facility is expected to generate an annual turnover of Rs 22 crore and an annual profit of Rs 3 crore.
The inauguration marked a significant milestone for both Kerala’s and India’s electronics industry. Incidentally, Keltron, which is the country’s first electronics manufacturing public sector company, is now home to the first supercapacitor production facility in India.
The plant was developed in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) at a cost of Rs 42 crore. The Chief Minister said the State Government is planning to invest Rs 1,000 crore in the sector. A master plan worth Rs 395 crore has already been drafted for Keltron’s modernisation, with several key projects nearing completion. For instance, Keltron’s Karakulam unit is on the way to becoming part of the electronics sector. The Government is also working to connect national highways to establish an IT corridor along with the development of an electronics hardware manufacturing park at Amballur. (IPA Service)
