New Delhi, July 22 – American aerospace giant Boeing has delivered three state-of-the-art AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to the Indian Army, marking a major boost to India’s combat capabilities. The delivery is part of a contract to supply six advanced combat choppers to the Army.
The AH-64E Apache is one of the most sophisticated multi-role combat helicopters in the world and is a key asset in the U.S. Army’s aviation fleet. With the induction of these helicopters, the Indian Army is expected to enhance its offensive and tactical capabilities significantly, especially in high-altitude and border regions.
“These state-of-the-art platforms will bolster the operational capabilities of the Indian Army significantly,” the Army said in a post on social media.
The recent delivery builds upon Boeing’s earlier collaboration with India. In 2020, the company completed the delivery of 22 AH-64E Apaches to the Indian Air Force (IAF), following a multi-billion dollar deal signed in 2015.
The Indian Army’s order for six Apache helicopters was approved by the Defence Ministry in 2017 at a cost of ₹4,168 crore. The contract included not only the aircraft but also associated weapons systems and support equipment. The delivery was originally scheduled to commence in 2024.
With the arrival of the first three helicopters, the Indian Army now prepares for operational integration of these advanced combat machines. The remaining three helicopters are expected to be delivered soon, completing the fleet and enhancing India’s air assault and precision-strike capabilities. (Agencies)
