New Delhi, July 21 – Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday, citing health concerns and the need to follow medical advice. The resignation, effective immediately, was submitted to the President under Article 67(a) of the Constitution.
In a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar stated, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately.” He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the President for her “unwavering support” and appreciated the cordial working relationship they shared.
Dhankhar also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers, acknowledging their cooperation and support during his tenure. “I have learned much during my time in office,” he noted.
Reflecting on his time in public office, he expressed deep appreciation for Members of Parliament, stating the warmth and trust he received would remain etched in his memory.
Describing his tenure as “a privilege and satisfaction,” Dhankhar said it was an honour to witness and be part of India’s “remarkable economic progress and unprecedented exponential development.”
As he steps down, Dhankhar conveyed his pride in India’s global stature and expressed confidence in the nation’s continued success. “I am filled with pride in Bharat’s global rise and phenomenal achievements and hold unwavering confidence in her brilliant future,” he wrote.
