Srinagar, July 12 — Police in Sopore have arrested Shahzad Ahmad Dar of Dangerpora for allegedly extorting Rs 95,000 from a local resident by falsely claiming links with police and offering to resolve a pending case.
An FIR has been registered at Sopore Police Station, and investigations are underway. The accused reportedly threatened the victim and took money on the pretext of settling a police matter.
Police emphasized that action was taken strictly under the law and warned the public against falling prey to such fraudulent claims. “Anyone facing threats or extortion in the name of police is urged to report the matter immediately,” officials said.
Authorities assured that legal consequences will follow for anyone involved in similar unlawful activities and reiterated the importance of reporting such incidents to maintain public trust.
