New Delhi, July 12: The Supreme Court will hear a petition on July 14 seeking directions to the Centre and the Election Commission to stop the use of the national flag for political or religious purposes.
The plea urges the court to ensure strict enforcement of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, and the Flag Code of India, 2002, to safeguard the dignity of the national flag.
A bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai, along with Justices K Vinod Chandran and N V Anjaria, will hear the case. The petition specifically seeks a ban on placing party logos, religious symbols, or texts on the national flag. The petitioner has requested a writ directing the Union of India and the Election Commission to act promptly against misuse, emphasizing the need for non-partisan and respectful treatment of the national symbol.
