J&K: Cop injured in accidental firing in Pahalgam

Srinagar, July 4:  A police constable was injured on Friday after his service rifle accidentally discharged while he was on duty for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred in Pahalgam, a key base for the annual pilgrimage. Selection Grade Constable Shabir Ahmad, deployed for yatra security duty, sustained injuries after his rifle went off accidentally, they said.

He was immediately shifted to Pahalgam hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be stable. The authorities have not reported any threat or foul play, and the incident appears to be a case of accidental firing.

The Amarnath Yatra is currently underway amid tight security, with thousands of personnel deployed along the route. (Agencies)
