Jammu Tawi, June 9, 2025: An impressive celebration was organized at Tawi Aarti Ghat, Bikram Chowk, to mark Shri Ganga Dussehra, the Foundation Day of Tawi Andolan, and World Environment Day. The event was held under the aegis of Tawi Andolan, a movement under the Tawi India Foundation, led by Chander Mohan Sharma, former Member of the J&K Human Rights Commission.
The program commenced with the sacred Tawi Aarti, resonating with Vedic chants and spiritual fervor, invoking the blessings of the holy river. Chander Mohan Sharma, in his welcome address, emphasized the spiritual, cultural, and ecological significance of the day and highlighted the urgent need to conserve the Tawi river, often referred to as the Ganga of Jammu.
Shri Om Vidhyarthi, Founder of Tree Talk and an acclaimed environmentalist, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and delivered the keynote address. He eloquently spoke on the critical importance of preserving native ecosystems, promoting afforestation, and nurturing riverine health as part of sustainable environmental stewardship.
The event brought together environmental activists, social workers, students, and local citizens in a vibrant display of faith, environmental commitment, and cultural pride.
Eminent speakers recalled the spiritual, ecological, and cultural significance of Indian rivers and emphasized the urgent need to revive and protect the Tawi river ecosystem.
Marking the Foundation Day of Tawi Andolan, its founder members shared the journey of the movement, highlighting its sustained efforts in river conservation, awareness drives, and community participation over the years. Special tributes were paid to volunteers and youth who have dedicated themselves to the cause of water and environmental preservation.
The event concluded with cultural performances and collective pledges to protect water bodies. The celebration symbolized the harmony of faith, activism, and environmental consciousness, uniting the community for a cleaner, greener future.
