New Delhi, May 28: In a move aimed at boosting farmer incomes, the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a 3% hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy, setting it at ₹2,369 per quintal for the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season. The revised MSP for A-grade paddy now stands at ₹2,389 per quintal, up by ₹69 from the previous season. This increment comes as part of the government’s continued effort to provide remunerative prices to farmers.
In addition to paddy, the MSP for key pulses also saw significant hikes:
Tur (Arhar): Increased by ₹450 to ₹8,000 per quintal
Urad: Up by ₹400 to ₹7,800 per quintal
Moong: Raised by ₹86 to ₹8,768 per quintal
According to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this comprehensive revision ensures that farmers receive at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production, in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 policy commitment.
Among oilseeds and coarse grains, the highest absolute MSP increase has been recorded for nigerseed, followed by ragi, cotton, and sesamum, reflecting the government’s aim to diversify crop cultivation and improve returns for farmers growing non-cereal crops.
The move is expected to strengthen the rural economy and encourage higher production during the upcoming Kharif season (July–June).
