Sunderbani April 11: About 15–20 vehicles were challaned today by the traffic police in an operation laying a Naka at the Forest Check Post, Makol Mandir and found most of the vehicles either without documents or with serious deficiencies. However, the DTI leading the operation did not disclose the exact number of vehicles challaned.
“Most of these vehicles carry only one or two valid documents, with many flouting basic traffic norms,” said sources.
According to sources, the stretch of road often choked with overloaded vehicles — particularly mini-buses — have long been under public and media scrutiny for rampant violations.
Responding to repeated complaints highlighted across social and print media, the District Traffic Inspector (DTI) finally swung into action by laying a traffic naka near the Forest Check Post at Makol Mandir on the Devak-Hathal-Letar Road.
Notably, this crackdown raised questions about the reactive approach of the traffic authorities as it happened after media pressure and public outrage, senior traffic officials directed the DTI to take action.
“Why does the traffic department act only when media reports reach senior officers?” asked a local resident. “If the police truly wanted to take action, many of these vehicles could have been seized on the spot, especially in today’s digital age where verification is just a click away.”
