Jammu, Apr 2: Two individuals who were injured in a road accident near the Nowyug Tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Tuesday evening succumbed to their injuries, according to officials. The incident occurred around 8:40 pm when a Hector vehicle, traveling from Jammu to Srinagar, lost control due to overspeeding and collided with a divider and a police barrier.
The crash left five people, including a Special Police Officer (SPO), injured. All injured individuals were immediately transported to Emergency Hospital Qazigund for treatment before being transferred to Government Medical College Anantnag for further care.
One of the injured, Zubair Ahmad Wani from Heerpora Shopian, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. A second victim, Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal from Shopian, passed away later that night due to the severity of his injuries.
Police have registered a case under sections 281, 125(a), and 324(4) BNS at the Qazigund Kulgam Police Station and have initiated an investigation into the accident.
This tragic incident follows another accident that occurred just six days ago inside the Nowyug Tunnel, in which 17 people, including the driver, were injured when an SRTC bus overturned.
