No-confidence motion against Budgam DDC Chairperson on Apr 7

Budgam, April 1: The District Development Council (DDC) chairperson of Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Khan, will face a no-confidence motion on April 7, marking a significant event as it becomes the first such test for the head of a third-tier Panchayati Raj system in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Deputy Commissioner of Budgam has called a meeting of the council on April 7 at 11:30 am for the consideration of the motion. This decision follows a directive from the High Court, which instructed authorities to address the no-confidence motion against the DDC chairperson.

The motion comes after a challenging 2024 Assembly election season, where several DDC members, including Khan, contested but most failed to win. Some, including the DDC chairperson of Baramulla, even forfeited their deposit. However, three DDC members—Irfan Hafiz Lone, Mehraj Malik, and Waheed-ur-Rehman Para—emerged victorious in the polls.

The no-confidence motion against Khan will be a significant political development in the region. (KNO)
