Jammu, Mar 12: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday confirmed that it will not reconsider its decision regarding the construction of accommodations for employees appointed under the Prime Minister’s Package for Kashmiri Migrants.
In a response to a question raised by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz, the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction (DMRRR) informed that 6,000 one-bedroom flats (1-BHK) had been approved under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) 2015 for Kashmiri migrant employees at 20 locations.
The initial sanctioned cost of Rs 920 crore has now been revised to Rs 1,325.84 crore. Additionally, following directions from the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed, permission was granted to construct 2-BHK flats at two locations—Sheikhpora and Vessu—rather than the initially planned 1-BHK units. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has communicated that the additional cost escalation for these changes will be borne by the Union Territory government.
Addressing concerns regarding the adequacy of the accommodations, the government clarified that there are no current proposals to revisit or restore the original decision.
