Can drone ban act as deterrent?

In the latest development in the Doda District with regard to containing subversive activities reportedly a ban has been imposed on the storage, use and transportation of drones for a period of two months. The authorities, while issuing orders in the matter, have made it clear that this move is aimed at stopping misuse of the unmanned flying objects by anti-national elements. Police and security agencies have been kept out of purview of this order besides government departments can use drones in the prohibition zone by taking prior permission from the concerned authorities.

For the convenience of the people who have in possession any of such devices, the provision has been given by the local administration to deposit the same with the local Police Stations against proper receipt.  This is really a prudent step and should be replicated in other districts as the present situation demands that there should be no confusion regarding the presence of unmanned flying objects in the skies of the UT. One thing is sure that the aforesaid order will help in identifying terror-linked activities swiftly because expecting that violence mongers will submit their illegal flying objects is out of the question.

Therefore, it could be said that the order to ban drones will in no way deter those who intend to carry out subversive activities but this can be of great use for security agencies to sanitize pockets with regard to any kind of flying objects and in case any such activity is noticed in the prohibited zone, the same can be identified to be something fishy and combat can be more effective and point blank.

To secure the aerial space near the vital installations and highly populated areas there is dire need that use of any kind of drones or small flying toys should be prohibited as soon as possible across the UT.

It is pertinent to mention that in the recent past, some incidents, have occurred in the wherein anti-national elements have used drones and similar flying objects to cause damage, injury and risk to human lives besides posing threat to the security of vital installations like the case of bombing of high security zone by two UAVs in Satwari area operated by Indian Air Force in few years back.

As far as common masses are concerned, it is advisable that anyone having such an entity should cooperate fully in the matter and submit the same in the local police station as directed in the aforesaid order because it is for the safety and security of the people.
