Rajouri, February 4: Following a news report by Northlines regarding alleged irregularities in subsidy distribution, Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Rajouri reportedly tried to approach this journalist, probably for a compromise.
According to sources, the CAO reportedly made efforts to engage with journalists from various quarters, even setting up meetings in locations such as Sunderbani and other subdivisions.
Sources maintained that the RTI inquiry sought clarity on the distribution of subsidies, particularly related to tractor assistance.
“The investigation revealed discrepancies in the allocation of 50% subsidies, raising concerns about favoritism and financial mismanagement,” said sources, adding that the funds were disbursed hastily and surreptitiously to certain individuals within just a few days of application.
Meanwhile, locals have requested the administration to take appropriate action against the mess going on in the Chief Agriculture Office plagued by incidents of corruption and harassment for the genuine peasants while dealing with the central schemes.
Surprisingly, the CAO who has been aspiring for promotion, with the help of his junior officers, attempted to coerce this scribe through WhatsApp calls and other means.
“The matter has now reached the notice of the Commissioner of Agriculture and the Director of Agriculture,” said sources, adding that while higher authorities are expected to take action, it remains to be seen whether stringent measures will be enforced or if the issue will be quietly brushed aside.
