JAMMU, Jan 26: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, unfurled the national flag on Republic Day and highlighted the sacrifices of freedom fighters and martyrs. Speaking at the occasion, he emphasized the importance of protecting the dreams of the youth from divisive forces and reaffirmed the commitment to democracy, justice, and equality.
The Lt Governor inspected a parade consisting of personnel from the Army, BSF, CRPF, J&K Police, NCC cadets, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and other forces. The parade featured pipe bands and various contingents, with a helicopter showering flowers over the podium.
In his address, LG Sinha paid tribute to the soldiers and security forces who safeguard the unity and security of the nation, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. He praised the region’s composite culture and resilient journey, underscoring the importance of peace and harmony. He also mentioned the successful Assembly Elections as a sign of positive change and increased democratic participation in the region.
Looking ahead, the Lt Governor announced plans for Local Body Elections to further strengthen governance and encourage broader people’s participation. He also discussed several government initiatives aimed at boosting transparency, accountability, and local empowerment, such as the digital governance platform e-Unnat and grievance redressal mechanisms like JK SAMADHAN.
On the economic front, LG Sinha highlighted a 9.5% growth rate in Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, with tourism playing a pivotal role. The region recorded a record 2.36 crore tourist visits in 2024, contributing significantly to local businesses. He announced several major projects, including a water park at Dwara Village and the development of Basohli as an adventure tourism hotspot.
The Republic Day celebrations concluded with cultural performances and physical exercises by schoolchildren at MAM Stadium, with the highlight being the daredevil acts by J&K Police motorcyclists.
